to black butte and back : the video experience

Here’s a short video I put together using the footage from last weekend’s trip to Black Butte Ranch to spend the weekend with family and celebrate my grandparents’ 60th anniversary.  It also documents one of Sarah’s and my favorite drives: Sonoma to Central Oregon.

These volcanoes have been around for millions of years.  Elliot has been gracing our presence for three and a half.  For sixty years, my grandparents Grandmere + Poppa have been enjoying wedded bliss.  To celebrate all these things, we took another road trip—also north—but this time veering off at Mt. Shasta on old interstate 97 to central Oregon and Black Butte Ranch.

spring trip: seattle to sonoma by way of wolf creek

The words historic, haunted, wolf, isolated elicit excitement in Sarah and me.  These words, combined with an old stagecoach Inn that housed the likes of Mary Pickford, Jack London, Orson Welles and Clark Gable that resides near a ghost town, elicit lodging lust in Sarah and me.

On our drive up to Seattle, Sarah saw a sign for the Wolf Creek Inn.  After investigating on the iPhone, she discovered the above-mentioned items and we eagerly called to reserve a room on our drive down the following weekend.  Luckily, we got a room.  Then we learned of the vampire.

spring trip: federal way

There are few better places to spend time than on Mimi + Pop’s back patio in nice weather.  We couldn’t have asked for nicer weather and we couldn’t have had a better time staying with Mimi + Pop. Chalk drawings, mouthwatering marina sauces, drives in the Chevy SSR while blasting Chuck Mangione, dancing lego Michael Jacksons, chromalumes, neon green espressos and lots and lots of playing filled our few days there.

spring trip: bellevue and port angeles

Rock skipping, pizza, glacial lakes, snow-covered mountains, easter golfball hunts, stuffed polar bears, card games . . . We had a wonderful stay with Meema + Dampa.  We spent the first night in Bellevue, before heading up to Port Angeles to visit Grandma.  The weather was incredible in Port Angeles and we took full advantage of being in a beautiful setting in gorgeous weather.  After a couple nights there, we returned to Bellevue for one more night.  Elliot had so much fun with her Meema and Dampa, especially the latter who was bed-ridden the last visit and was really enjoying making up for lost time.

spring trip: sonoma to seattle by way of dunsmuir

Our niece Lauren was performing a role in the production of Sunday in the Park with George at the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle this spring, so we felt it was excuse enough for a road trip.  With both of our families living in the Seattle area, we always find a way to visit with everyone on our whirlwind trips.  We love the trip up to Seattle and even with the challenges that accompany a three-year-old traveling companion, we had a wonderful drive.
